Sample Swatch Service Total Cost £5.95 (£5 refundable, see below)
Please advise which colour/fabric you would like to see, in the order comments box, when placing your order.
You may order a sample/s if you would like to see some swatches of our stock held fabric, prior to your fabric order. Please ensure the style, finish and colour suit your requirement, prior to placing an order as fabric cannot be returned once cut to customer specification.
Please advise which of our fabrics / colours you would like to see. There is a charge of £5.95 for this service, (this will appear as £1 item cost plus £4.95 delivery at checkout and on your invoice).
£5.00 will be refunded to you on your subsequent fabric order, if you order 2+metres and if placed within 30 days of the swatch order, *if the full £5.95 is paid. *Only £1 will be charged if other items are purchased at the same time. Please refer to the sample swatch order reference number when placing your fabric order to claim this refund, if the order details apply as above.
Please note that we can only offer this service for customers who are intending to purchase fabric by the metre, once they have seen the sample/s. Thank you for your understanding.
Please wash as needed using a gentle cycle with a mild detergent. If your hemp product is a curtain or curtain panel, please remove any rings before washing. To minimise creasing, avoid overloading the washing machine.
For best results, we recommend ironing while the fabric is still damp, on the reverse side, to reshape. The item can then be hung to finish drying. We do not recommend tumble drying.
Hemp can also be dry cleaned.
Thank you for choosing one of our Purely hemp pieces — a beautiful, stylish, and environmentally conscious addition to your home.
Please note: As a natural fabric, occasional irregularities may occur and should not be considered faults. Dyed hemp fabrics may gradually fade if exposed to direct sunlight over time.
Hemp makes one of the most eco-friendly fabrics available and it does not need any nasty chemicals to grow. Unlike conventional cotton, it is a sustainable resource that is naturally resistant to most pests, so there is no need for pesticides. The plant needs little help to thrive. It requires less water than cotton to grow and is so prolific and tightly spaced that fertilizers and herbicides are also unnecessary, as there is no room for weeds.
With its deep root system it grows without negatively affecting the soil and can therefore be grown for several years. In fact, growing hemp adds more than it takes out of the land, unlike cotton which depletes the soil of its nutrients. Industrial hemp has been cultivated for thousands of years, the fibres being renowned for their strength and durability, whilst the seeds are a great nutritional source of proteins, as well as providing other health and practical uses.
It is a most efficient crop to grow with its relatively short cycle and many uses, such as nutritional hemp seeds, paper, bodycare products, detergents, pet foods and even insulation and building materials, but it should not be confused with its illegal cousin (in comparison it contains just a trace of THC, not even enough to bring a smile to your face).
Hemp fabric is a textural, naturally attractive fabric that can be produced in various weights, so is suitable for the finest of apparel to heavy duty upholstery. It is naturally UV resistant and absorbent, and is also known for its anti-bacterial, anti-mould and insulative qualities. It feels soft over time and has a contemporary elegance, suitable for today's more simple taste.

Why Choose Hemp?
Minimal Water Usage: Unlike cotton, hemp requires very little water to grow, making it one of the most water-efficient crops.
No Chemicals or Pesticides: Hemp grows naturally without the need for toxic chemicals, pesticides, or fertilizers, making it a safer choice for the environment and the people who grow it.
Biodegradable & Durable: Hemp is naturally biodegradable, meaning it won't end up sitting in a landfill for decades like plastic-based materials. It is also incredibly strong and durable, making it an ideal material for products that will last for years.
Soil Health: Hemp actually helps improve soil health by replenishing nutrients, unlike cotton, which depletes the soil over time.
FAQs

Yes, many shower curtains still off-gas, especially if they are made from PVC (polyvinyl chloride) or other vinyl-based plastics even though there’s greater awareness now.
Why Some Shower Curtains Still Off-Gas:
- Material matters: PVC is still commonly used in cheap or mass-produced shower curtains. It contains plasticizers (like phthalates), stabilizers (such as lead or cadmium compounds), and other additives that can evaporate as volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
- New products off-gas the most: Fresh from the package, a plastic curtain may release strong chemical odors — that "new shower curtain smell" is VOCs being released into the air.
- Heat and humidity (like from hot showers) can accelerate the off-gassing process.
What Can Be Released:
- Phthalates (linked to hormone disruption)
- Toluene and benzene (linked to neurological effects and cancer)
- Formaldehyde
- Dioxins (if PVC is manufactured or burned improperly)

1. Low Water Usage
Hemp requires significantly less water than conventional crops like cotton. Cotton can use up to 20,000 liters of water to produce 1 kg of fiber, while hemp uses around a third of that amount or less.
2. No Need for Pesticides or Herbicides
Hemp is naturally resistant to pests and weeds, meaning fewer or no chemical inputs are needed. This reduces pollution of soil and water and supports healthier ecosystems - as well as meaning no off-gassing in our homes.
3. High Yield and Fast Growth
Hemp grows very quickly (around 90–120 days) and produces more fibre per acre than cotton or flax (used for linen). This makes it a high-efficiency crop for textile production.
4. Improves Soil Health
Hemp has deep roots that help aerate and enrich the soil, and it can even remove toxins through a process called phytoremediation. It also leaves the soil in good condition for the next crop rotation and makes a great companion crop.
5. Carbon Sequestration
Hemp absorbs more CO₂ per acre than most crops or trees, acting as a natural carbon sink and helping to combat climate change.
6. Biodegradable and Durable
Hemp fabric is biodegradable, breaking down naturally at the end of its life cycle, unlike synthetic fibres. It is also long-lasting and strong, which reduces the need for frequent replacements.
7. Low Waste Production
Virtually every part of the hemp plant can be used — for textiles, food, building materials, and more — leading to minimal agricultural waste.
In short, hemp fabric supports a circular and eco-friendly system that reduces environmental impact across the entire product lifecycle as well as being a healthier choice for our living and work environment

Yes, hemp fabric is generally considered hypoallergenic, which means it's unlikely to cause allergic reactions in most people. Here's why:
Why Hemp Fabric Is Hypoallergenic:
- Natural and Chemical-Free
Hemp can be grown and processed with minimal chemical inputs, especially when organically produced. This reduces the risk of skin irritation from residual pesticides or harsh dyes. - Antimicrobial Properties
Hemp fibers naturally resist bacteria, mould, and mildew, which helps reduce skin irritation and allergic reactions, especially for people with sensitive skin or conditions like eczema. - Breathable and Moisture-Wicking
Hemp fabric is highly breathable and wicks away moisture, making it less likely to trap sweat or allergens that can cause skin issues. - No Synthetic Fibers
Unlike synthetic fabrics (like polyester or nylon), hemp doesn’t contain plastic-based materials that can irritate the skin or cause allergic responses in some individuals.
Important Note:
While hemp is hypoallergenic for most people, individual sensitivities vary. If someone has a specific allergy to plant-based fibers (rare, but possible), patch testing with the fabric is a good idea before full use.
In summary: Yes, hemp fabric is hypoallergenic for most people — making it a great option for those with sensitive skin or allergies to conventional textiles.

Hemp has a natural texture but holds its shape well. While it can wrinkle slightly, it relaxes with wear, and a light steam or iron can smooth it out easily.
